Day 266: Working it Out

As promised, a post, post-birthday.

And for my birthday, we went to a corn maze, thereby completing another task!

Task 102: Go through a corn maze.

We, being my parents and I, drove up to Patterson, CA to a corn maze in the shape of Kaepernick. We cheated, but it was a great time, nonetheless.

Task 8: Take a yoga or pilates class.

I took a beginning yoga class at Breathe Yoga in Los Gatos, CA. It was very challenging. but I look forward to the next class.

I'm still working on my Halloween costume. I have to make my horns yet, but that is it.

I'm almost caught up on my $10 installments. I just need to add these two new ones to my savings.

Day 249: Rewarding

So I've completed a few tasks since last I posted.

Task 61: Start a food journal.

This task hasn't been very well accomplished, to be honest. I started a food journal, kept it up for about a week over my school break, then forgot about it. I think I'm going to make a more concentrated effort to follow through on this task by posting my eating habits in my day planner, that way, it's with me all the time and I have no excuse to forget. Never the less, I completed the goal, so I can't argue with that.

Task 63: Reward myself.

On Monday, I completed my esthetics state boards and passed! I'm now a licensed esthetician in the state of California! This is very exciting, as it means I can get a skilled job. I'm already sending out applications. To celebrate, I ordered myself some nail polishes, and signed up to take belly dancing classes (which will help me complete task 12). I also went out to dinner with my family.

Task 103: Make a kick-ass Halloween costume.

While on school break, I made my Halloween costume! Most of it I put together from things I already had, but I made the skirt, so it counts. I'm going to be Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, but a sexier version, of course. I still have to make the horns, but I won't be doing that until just before Halloween so they don't get damaged. Regardless, the costume is more-or-less made, and I will post a picture of the finished product come Halloween.

Upcoming tasks:

Task 8: Take a yoga or pilates class - I want to get my yoga instructor certification, so I'm going to try to do some more yoga in my free time.

Task 62: Take a belly dancing class - ON IT.

Task 12: Take a dance class - See task 62 and 63.

Task 102: Go through a cornmaze - I'm planning on going to a cornmaze for my birthday on the 12th. Yay!

My Vegas trip is also fast approaching, which will add a whole bunch of completed goals to this blog.

My next post should be sometime after my birthday. See you then!

Day 212: Losing

It's been a bit of time since my last post, but I haven't really been keeping up with my list lately. I just finished the esthetics portion of my schooling, and have been rather busy with that. I now have two weeks off to gather my thoughts and complete some of these items! I'm planning on working on my sketchbook, and making some stencils, so that will help my to-do list.

BUT, all is not lost. Some is though.

Task 44: Lose 10 pounds.

I did it! I lost 10 pounds! I don't know how, as I've been eating terribly lately, but I think part of it is I'm only eating when I'm hungry, so maybe that helps? Who knows. I'm just happy to see those numbers going down.

To follow up on my last post...

Task 37: Get dermal piercings.

I am now the proud owner of 4 dermal piercings on my chest. Very expensive, and not very painful.

I went to a spa expo yesterday, and now owe myself bunches of money for completing tasks as I borrowed my spa expo money from that fun. Oh well.

That's all for now. Expect an update soon!

Day 168: Modification

Coming up on Thursday: Body Modification!

I haven't entirely decided what I'll be getting. I was planning on getting nose piercings, but my parents have already expressed their extreme displeasure at the idea ("we'll stop supporting you" sort of stuff), so I have to come up with something else. My 101:1001 list offers up dermals and labia piercings; the former isn't a terrible idea, and the latter is a bit too personal for not having a piercer I know and trust. I want dermals down my back and on my ring finger, but I've been wanting surface piercings on my chest for quite some time, and that might win out.

I finished 5 books for fun! The last one was called "Night Life" by Caitlin Kittredge, which was quite enjoyable. All five books were, really, though most of them were dredge of the literary world. I can't give you all the titles simply because I didn't document them, though two were from the Gloriana St Claire series, one was an Argeneau novel, and the fourth remains a mystery.

I received my sketchbook, so I'm starting to brainstorm ideas. Unfortunately, there's no theme to go by for my journal, making it infinitely harder to come up with ideas. At least a theme gave a starting point to sprout off from. I might just do last year's theme in this year's sketchbook (Time Traveler). I had plenty of ideas for that; I just never had or found the time to sit down and do it. I'm currently looking into buying some new art supplies for my sketchbook. Mainly pencils, spray paints, and pastels.

That's all for now, I suspect. I plan to focus more on my list in the next coming months, especially once I get my short break from my esthetics program. I'm hoping to get some externing done, as well as helping out with a creative team project, so my break between CIDESCO and esthetics will be a nice size.

Day 130: Health

Another task down! Boom! (Yes, I felt that "Boom!" was necessary.)

Task 43: Find a doctor.

I made an appointment to see a doctor on June 25th through Palo Alto Medical Foundation. They come highly recommended and I'm greatly looking forward to this appointment. I need a physical, and with it, I need to 'Ok' to start seeing a physical trainer so I can tackle item 48: exercise daily for at least 30 minutes. That's not to say I'll be seeing a trainer daily, as that's insane, but rather that the trainer will give me an exercise routine to pull from so I know what the hell I'm doing when I go to the gym or grab some free weights at home.

I'm hoping this will also in turn assist with goals 44 (lose 10 pounds) and 45 (lose 25 pounds). I'm one or two pounds away from my 10 pound goal. We'll find out on Saturday or Sunday how close exactly.

I owe myself $40 for my last few tasks.

Day 122: Refreshing

It's been a while since my last blog post, mainly because I've been busy with school. I haven't forgotten about my list, and I'm here to update you on my latest accomplishments!

56: Go on a second date.
In fact, I've even been on a third date! I'm seeing a wonderful guy named Christian, who is quite the character. We get on really well, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again soon.

81: Go to a concert.
I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert a week ago. They were amazing! What a show. I'm still slightly disappointed they didn't play "Tusk", but I'll get over it.

82: Go to a music festival.
I attended BFD (Big Fucking Deal) a few weekends ago. It was a great line up, but I unfortunately couldn't stay for the whole concert. That said, I went, so it still counts.

I'm currently working on my novel, which isn't really going anywhere. I'm stuck. I know what I want to happen with it, I'm just feeling a little uninspired.

I also ordered my sketchbook for the sketchbook project over the weekend. It will be touring through the Midwest, so be on the look out for it if you're in Madison, Chicago, or Milwaukee. Maybe Minneapolis, but I can't recall. It will also be in Brooklyn, for those NY-ers interested. I'll be sure to post a link to the digital version once it is available.

In addition to all this wonderment, I'm working on losing some weight. I'm down 9 pounds, which almost brings me to my first goal of 10 pounds. I'm going to be doing a cleanse hopefully next weekend, and maybe that will drop me down to that 10 pound mark. For those wondering, I'm dieting right now by cutting out dairy, baked goods, and reducing my meat intake. That said, this weekend hasn't been a good one for me, and I floundered a bit. I'll be back on track tomorrow though, I swear. I also plan to start adding exercise to the equation tomorrow as well.

That's it for now. Back to writing!

Day 76: Task 79

Hello lovely readers! It's been a bit since my last post, but I have been rather busy. WITH SCHOOL. Yes, I'm back on the academic track working towards my CIDESCO license. For those of you who are too lazy to google, think advanced esthetics. For those of you who are still struggling, think facials, waxing, make up, massage, lasers!

The task I have completed is 79: Drink two bottles of water per day for a week. The actual task doesn't list the time frame, but I had always planned on it being a week. Anyways, now that I'm in school, my teacher really pushes us to stay hydrated, and I do. My skin is even improving from all the lovely water!  I always thought drinking oodles of water was a bit silly, but hey, if the skin looks better, I'm there.

I'll also likely complete task 43 this week: Find a primary doctor. I don't have one since moving to CA, and need one pretty desperately. I've been doing a little looking already, and just need to make the call and book an appointment.

That's all for now. I'll check in soon.

Day 42: Meetings

I am at 5% complete for my 101 things list! This is amazing! I didn't think I'd get this far this quickly.

Ok, maybe I sound a bit silly, but I'm excited, ok?

I completed item 87: Meet an online friend I haven't met before.

I was anticipating to use this item for my ex-friend (see letter blog), but ended up using this for my friend Jen who lives in San Jose. We went out for an early dinner and drinks on Friday at Vino Vino, which was lovely. I realize now we should have taken a picture of our hot selves for me to post, but obviously, it didn't come to mind.

Also, number 27 was completed: Listen to a new artist everyday for a month. Admittedly, February was a shorter month than the rest, so I gave it a couple extra days (especially to make up for a day or two I missed, or at least didn't document).

I owe myself $20 for these tasks, but I don't have it handy at the moment.

There's the update, more info and adventures to come.

Day 40: Task by Task

Here's the update you've all been waiting for!

Or maybe not.

Whichever.

I completed task 42: Read a book in one day. I read Immortal Ever After by Lynsay Sands. It's a series that I have been reading for quite some time, and the most recent book was released this week. Admittedly, it isn't quality reading, but who cares? A girl needs a vampire romance novel ever now and then, and anything is better than Twilight.

In further news, I am upset with the Sketchbook Project. They changed their travel patterns so each book only visits about 3 cities now, and you choose your destinations from a previously created set. I want my book to travel the world, not a region. I can travel a region with my own damn book! Oh, and there are no themes! NO THEMES! What's the damn point? Anyways, I'm still going to do the damn project, I'll just be damn cranky about it.

That is all. Until the next task.

Day 32: Back on Track

Today, I completed task 41: Go to a zumba class.

To be honest, it kind of sucked for me. I've never been to my gym's zumba class before, so I'm not familiar with their songs and corresponding dances. I don't pick these things up easily either. I'm fairly gangly as is, and I'm sure I simply looked like a fish flailing about on the deck. I enjoyed the music, but not my inability to keep up.

I also was only able to stay for half the class. It was too much for me to pick up, and since I am physically incapable of running at this point in time (thanks vasavagal), it really wasn't paced for someone like me. I'll likely attend once I've built up some stamina.

I'm debating whether zumba counts as a dance class, which would then complete item 12.

In other news, I'll be able to buy my sketchbook for the sketchbook project on Monday, item number 4 on my list. I'm seriously looking forward to it.

Item number 27 is almost over: Listening to a new artists every day for a month. Granted, February is a short month. It might be cheating, but I'm calling it fair in this case because it's actually been fairly difficult to find musicians I like that I've not heard. Apparently, I'm rather particular.

Well, I believe that I've said "I", in it's various forms, enough for one blog. Although, should anyone have any book recommendations, I will gladly accept them for item 51.

Have a great night, all.

Day 16: Taking a break

Hello all. It has been a week of no goals as I was sick and lazy. However, I finally read a book that was just for the pleasure of reading, and am starting another today, so I'm technically working on my goal of 5 books for fun.

As I mentioned last time, my letter was sent, and received. The receiver finally got to see how I feel about our dissolution, and I think he gets it. We're no longer talking.

I was unable to order my sketchbook as it's not open for business yet. The tour for this year's sketchbooks has just started, so that is the focus for the moment.

I attempted to get a ticket to a TED event in LA, but those things are $2,500 minimum! What a joke. Apparently, only the rich are allowed to be intellectually stimulated. Pffft, I say.

I'll be attending a film festival this weekend, and am looking forward to checking that off my list. They're all silent films, including the film that inspired Disney's Snow White, and a film by the director of Nosferatu. It should be interesting, if I can stay awake.

Day 9: Heartfelt

Today, I completed my third task:

  5) Send a letter

I sent a letter to my friend of 6 years, who is, as of two days ago, no longer my friend. It was a very difficult decision for me to come to, but I feel it is for the best. When I wrote my list up a few days ago, a few of the items were actually for him: send a letter, send art, etc. He'd been on my mind a lot recently, as our friendship was dissolving. I had every intention of doing my best to rekindle and revive what we had. Unfortunately, it wanted to die.

So I sent him my good-byes instead.

Thanks again, Amanda Palmer, for finding the write *wink wink* song for every major life decision: "Smile (Pictures or it Didn't Happen)". And thanks, Chumbawumba, for being there when the letter was written, and sealed, to remind me that, even though this friendship is over, I'm not: "Tubthumping".

Day 8 of 101: Task 2

I've done it! Another task!

I wrote my list of 100 songs I could listen to forever. It's three pages long, but it's worth it. I learned quite a bit from it. I basically went through my top played songs on iTunes and collected those I could listen to (and often have) on repeat without going mad. Not too many uber happy, upbeat tunes. Lots of Modest Mouse, Fever Ray, Laura Viers, some Coheed and Cambria, Fleetwood Mac, The Shins, and more. Chumbawumba made the list!

If you'd like me to post it, let me know. You might learn of a great new song? Who knows.

Today, I might start another task, but have yet to decide which.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

I've done it!

I've completed one thing on my list! My first thing!

   13) Write a letter to myself to be opened after the 1001 days

I feel very accomplished. I just need to put it in an envelope and hide it! When I open it in 995 days, I'll post it here for everyone to read, but until then, it's a surprise!

I'm also working on my novel. It's coming along, which is exciting, but I need to keep my goals in mind. I'm the sort of writer who goes off on tangents about what one outfit looks like, and suddenly, I'm drawing up a full wardrobe for a character and nothing else is happening. I find this odd, as I hate description, so why would I write so damn much of it?

Also, I'm not sure about this 5000 question survey. It's a lot of livejournal/myspace crap that would have been fine if I were 13, or my friend Hailey, but for me? I don't know. I've added a few buffer goals to my list just in case!

Just a quick post for today to declare my accomplishment. As ever, the food and music blog continues.

Day 5 of 101

I apologize for not updating sooner. I meant to have something to come back and say, "Look what I did!", but I don't. I have been struck with a nasty cold, and sleep took priority. That said, I have all day today to myself, so I intend to work on a few goals!

In addition to the previously mentioned goals that I mentioned in my blog, I also intend to do some work towards a few more goals:

  4) Complete the sketchbook project
  21) Write a novel

Today, I'll be ordering my sketchbook for the sketchbook project through Art House Co-op. Every year, they host dozens of art projects to go on tour national, and sometimes internationally. I haven't completed a sketchbook in a few years, so I need to start as early as possible!

I'll also be working on a book I started writing a while ago. It's nothing fancy; just a cheesy romance novel.

I continue to work on my food and music journal, though I think I may have missed a day already. Being sick ruins everything.

Have a great day!

Starting Fresh with 101!

I haven't used this blog in a long time, and things have happened. But to be honest, that's not what this is about anymore. I'm not going to sit down and write about what happened after my last post, or even why I posted it. I'm getting back to what my blog was meant to be about, and that's MAKING SHIT HAPPEN, yo!

Today, I finished my new 101 things in a 1001 days list, which is what it sounds like; you do 101 things from a list within 1001 days. Last year, I was 35% successful, which isn't bad for the first time. This time, I'm looking for 75%. My goals are more do-able this year, and I think equally fun.

So now, I shall use this blog to complete on of my 101 things! Number 97, blog about each 101 thing. One thing down! See? I set up my list this way on purpose. It's sort of cheating, maybe, but it's also kind of fun to see how many items on the list you can complete in one go.

Today will be a big push. I'm going to try to start a few items.
     5) Send a letter
   13) Write a letter to myself to be opened after the 1001 days
   25) Document my music tastes over a year
   27) Listen to a new artist everyday for a month
   31) Send homemade art to a friend
  46) Journal regularly
  61) Start a food journal
  67) Save $10 for every task I complete
  94) Send a message in a bottle
  97) Blog about each 101 thing (previously mentioned)
  98) Complete the 5000 Question Survey

Now that sounds like a lot, and it probably is, but, some I've already started and some art inter-linked. Let me explain.

Numbers 25, 27, 46, and 61 will all be part of the same journal. I'm going to keep a journal that includes my food journal, song of the day, and for the first month, it must be bands/artists that are new to me. Easy enough? Maybe.

I'm going to be completing numbers 5 and 13 together, but I'm also writing a letter to a friend that I'll be putting in a bottle as a joke, so that also gets number 94 done. I plan to make the bottle into number 31, if not including another piece of art (I owe someone a Christmas gift).

I'm going to start that 5000 questions today, and keep a tally of my debt to myself here too. I have no cash handy at the moment, so I'll start 67 soon, but keep tabs today.

I also intend to document the lovelier and more visual items for this blog. Don't worry; bad art included.

That's it for now. I'll update tomorrow with my progress!

I'm excited!

Yours truly,
Martha
